Mugwort's Shadow is the first book in the middle-grade series The Ballad of the Badger King: In a world populated by beasts of every shape and size, enemies and riddles wait at every turn as Yarrow and the Medley Troupe try to help their badger friend reclaim her rightful throne.
Courage. Sacrifice. Hope.
Yarrow never expected to find himself running from wolves in the dead of night.
The hedgehog minstrel dreams only of fame, hearthside songs, and perfectly baked muffins. But as he travels Blueberry Forest with his friend Mel the owl and the foxling twins, seeking the next cozy inn, fate interrupts with a captive princess and her desperate plea for help.
Mel insists they help Princess Fragaria. Yarrow protests – surely this calls for a real hero?
Yet as the tyrant Mugwort's wolves close in, the reluctant hedgehog realizes his troupe is the princess’s only hope. Will Yarrow abandon his comfortable dreams to save a kingdom, or let darkness triumph while he stands safely aside?
Perfect for fans of The Green Ember, Redwall, and Narnia.

My 10-year old son loved it and is already almost done with the second book.
My 7- and 10-year-old enjoyed this as a read-aloud and are anxiously awaiting the next book. We enjoyed the creative animals names and exciting storyline.
Middle Grade Fantasy Gently Christian Cool adventure book! I’d love to read this with the kids in my life!
A fun adventure for the whole family. I received a copy from a Goodreads giveaway.
We really enjoyed this book as a family! The characters were complex and growing which I loved! The woodland setting and characters and kingdom were charming at the plot was interesting and engaging. I can’t wait for book 2 to find out what happens to princess Frageria, her friends, the troop and the kingdoms! This book reminded me of The Green Ember and Wingfeather Saga!
